Hopi Ear Candles Hopi Ear Candle, otherwise known as
Thermo Auricular Therapy, is a relaxing therapy, originally used to treat head, ear, nose and throat problems by the ancient
Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese and Native American Hopi Indians - by whom the
therapy was re-introduced to the West in modern times.
The candles are hollow tubes made in the traditional Hopi Indian way, using beeswax, honey and herb extracts such as St Johns Wort, sage and camomile. Hopi ear candle therapy is a very gentle and safe treatment for removal of excess ear wax which improves the clarity of hearing and may be a preferred treatment to syringing the ears. They work via ‘chimney effect’, as the lit candle is placed in the ear the flame creates a vibration in the ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum. What happens in a therapy session? The treatment is carried out with the fully clothed patient lying on their side. A hollow lit ‘candle’ is gently inserted into the outer ear held in place lightly by your experienced Therapist. The vacuum created by the heat of the flame, gently and painlessly draws the wax out of the ear. The candle will induce a feeling of warmth and the balancing of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is important that both sides are treated. Once the candle has been extinguished on one side your therapist will then treat the opposite side. At the end of the session the therapist will lightly massage around the ear and face.
