Using a Health Professions Council Registered Chiropodist guarantees that
your Chiropodist has met the governing body's minimum standards. In July
2003 an act of parliament came into force and all unregistered
Chiropodists/Podiatrists had until July 2005 to register.
Chiropodists/Podiatrists are one of 20 titles now protected under the act. A
list of these titles is available on the Health Professions Council's website
listed below. The titles Chiropodist and Podiatrist are protected by law. Anyone using one of these titles must be registered with the Health Professions Council, or they may be subject to prosecution and a fine of up to £5,000. A person commits an offence if they use a protected title if they are not registered with The HPC. It is also an offence to imply that you are one of the professions that The HPC regulates. An example of this is if someone states that they provide chiropody services when they are not on The HPC register. Any queries regarding this should be made to The HPC Fitness To Practise team.
